It’s no surprise that my earliest memories involve music. I remember singing and dancing along to the Jungle Book soundtrack. When my parents got me in a car, I would sing Jingle Bells all twelve months off the year. (How they managed to not strangle me, is a miracle.) And I remember my first album I ever owned. It was the Muppet Soundtrack. And on it, was Kermit singing “The Rainbow Connection.” That must have been my very first favorite song and favorite album.
Last night, at the Aaron Lewis concert, I was ecstatic, and VERY shocked to hear this song again. For those of you who don’t know who Aaron Lewis is, he’s the lead singer for Staind, an alternative rock band. We went to see Aaron last night at his acoustical show. It was just him, his mic, and about five different guitars. It was THE BEST concert I’ve been to
Anyway, it the midst of his angst-ridden rock, he breaks out with this song. It was quite an experience, seeing and hearing this tattooed rocker singing a children’s song. But, it was awesome, hearing one of my favorite singers as an adult sing my first favorite song. So, for those of you who haven’t heard “The Rainbow Connection, or Aaron Lewis, I’ve included both for your listening and viewing pleasure.
“The Rainbow Connection”
Why are there so many songs about rainbows
And what’s on the other side?
Rainbows are visions, but only illusions,
And rainbows have nothing to hide.
So we’ve been told and some choose to believe it
I know they’re wrong, wait and see.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
The lovers, the dreamers and me.
Who said that every wish would be heard and answered
when wished on the morning star?
Somebody thought of that
and someone believed it,
and look what it’s done so far.
What’s so amazing that keeps us stargazing?
And what do we think we might see?
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.
All of us under its spell,
we know that it’s probably magic….
Have you been half asleep
and have you heard voices?
I’ve heard them calling my name.
Is this the sweet sound that calls the young sailors?
The voice might be one and the same.
I’ve heard it too many times to ignore it.
It’s something that I’m supposed to be.
Someday we’ll find it, the rainbow connection,
the lovers, the dreamers and me.
La, la la, La, la la la, La Laa, la la, La, La la laaaaaaa
For now, I’m off to enjoy the rest of a much needed weekend off. This Queen needs her rest.
Here’s to great music, then and now. 🙂
