Count Your Blessings: A Novella by Sharon Sala

Book Review

Count Your Blessings: A Novella

By: Sharon Sala

ss

Book Synopsis:

Previously titled Color Me Bad, New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Sharon Sala dishes up Count Your Blessings, a contemporary romance piled high with love, laughter, and plenty of heart in Blessings, Georgia!

As the respectable wife of the town preacher, Patty June Clymer never thought she’d have to worry about a cheating husband. But when things come to a head, Patty decides to take charge of her life by kicking her no-good husband out her house, and getting a total makeover at the popular local salon. With a new spiky black haircut and a new outlook on life, Patty goes from mousy and meek to living large and in charge, and fairly starts a revolution in the small town of Blessings, Georgia.

My Review

Set in a small town in Georgia, this witty novella starts in the local beauty salon. It seems like a typical day until the mistress of Patty June Clymer’s husband comes in to get her nails done for an afternoon of fun with Patty June’s minister husband. What happens next? Chaos in the beauty salon. Patty June soon becomes the talk of the town, what with her no ‘do, and her traveling to Italy. Patty June’s makeover becomes the catalyst for a woman’s movement in town.

This book was laugh out loud funny. Every time Patty June used the word “fornicate”, I thought it was hilarious and spot-on for the character. Sala captures the essence of a small-town in the South. The only complaint that I have is that it ended too soon. I was thinking there would be more. However, it is a great intro to the series. I will be adding these books to my TBR pile.

One day changes Grayson’s future forever…

A lawyer summons Grayson to Maine for the reading of the will of a woman he once knew. He doesn’t expect to be named the father of a five-year-old orphan. Then he meets his newly-discovered daughter—and her incredibly sexy nanny.

Confessions of an Old Lady

By: Christina Morgan

cool

Book Synopsis:

Olivia is eager to earn her undercover stripes with the deadliest biker gang in the country…

Agent Olivia Rockford is doing well for herself. Twenty-something arrests and more than a dozen convictions in her first year alone has her ranked among the top DEA agents. Olivia is chosen to go undercover to bring down the notorious Lords of Chaos, a motorcycle gang in her home state of Kentucky. Her mark is the good-looking bad boy VP, Sonny Jackson.

Olivia transforms into the badass Trish Sanders and snags Sonny’s attention. Now she has to keep it…

Dubbed Sonny’s “old lady,” he begins to confide in Olivia about the gang’s illegal activities, as well as their feud with rival gang, the Monsters of Mayhem. When the feud escalates, and the Monsters assassinate someone close to Sonny, Olivia uses her agent training to convince Sonny to set up a meeting to resolve their disputes.

Despite her growing feelings for Sonny, Olivia doesn’t have a choice but to pass along the details of the meeting to her supervisor…

When the DEA raids the meetings between the two gang powerhouses, Sonny quickly puts two and two together and realizes who his old lady really is. He puts a gun to Olivia’s head and demands the truth. Olivia realizes she has to tell him the truth…her real name, her assignment, and most importantly, her feelings for him despite everything.

Will Sonny be able to forgive Olivia for her crime of betrayal, or will she simply become a cautionary tale in…

Confessions of an Old Lady?

My Review

This is my second Christine Morgan story. And just like the first one, I found that once I started reading, I couldn’t put it down. I’d sit down to take a break and read one chapter, next thing I knew I had read four. It’s the kind of book I like to read. The character’s are extremely real, they have their flaws just like everyone else.

Olivia rushes head-long into this undercover situation because she’s not happy with her own life. She sees it as an escape and soon finds that it may be a little more than she bargained for. I like seeing her grow and change as she becomes this new person she’s created for herself.

I like that Sonny isn’t too rough around the edges. He’s got his soft side and I like that. I think there’s a good balance with him.

The flow is great, like I said, you pick it up and before you know it, you’ve read a few chapters. This author has a very smooth writing style, that I enjoy. I will definitely be reading more of Morgan’s work.

Battling a lawsuit and his heart, Graham must decide what’s more important—the life he thought he wanted…or Maggie. Maggie might be the only thing that will ever help Graham
Stay Grounded.

My Review

Graham Riley loves to fly and he loves his job as a pilot. One night, a drunken passenger gets rude with a co-worker, and Graham defends her. In doing so, he ends up on social media, and in trouble at work. He is required to take anger management classes, and decides to do so in his quiet hometown. He plans on taking his classes, doing what he needs to do and getting back in the pilot’s seat. What he doesn’t count on is lusting after his therapist.

Rice never disappoints with her novels, and this is no different. Her characters are well-developed and real. The kind of people you’d meet at the local coffee shop. As much as I love her characters, though, I also fell in love with the setting. Her descriptions of the area made me want to hop a plane and visit. (And run into my own hunky pilot!) A sweet, spicy, must read!

Between the Bleeding Willows by D.A. Roach

Between the Bleeding Willows

Book One in the Demon Hunters Series

D.A. Roach

bww

At eighteen years old, Cassidy has suffered more loss than most… At the end of her senior year, her boyfriend, Jace Peters, was killed in a car accident, and her grandmother died only weeks later of a heart attack. Emotionally lost, Cassidy desperately searches for an heirloom her boyfriend was wearing in the crash—her mother’s gold ring. But during her search, Cassidy discovers more than her ring. She finds a gate to the Demon Realm…. A battle is brewing, and Killian—head of the Demon hunters—preps his Clan for the approaching conflict. They’ve been working to secure the gate between his realm and the mortal world. But it’s been nearly impossible since Rya—a voracious demon on a quest to expand her power—devoured the soul of his Clan’s necromancer. Now Rya is possessed with the necromancer’s powers and she may break through the gate at any moment. Apparently Rya isn’t the only one Killian has to worry about… When Cassidy accidentally crosses into the Demon Realm, Killian can’t understand how a human girl survived the transition. Now he has to find a way to return her to her own world, or risk her being caught in the crossfire, which is a complication he definitely doesn’t need. Once back in the Human Realm, Cassidy readies herself for battle. She signs up for Krav Maga classes, where she meets Tyler Romaitis—a handsome, tenacious, humble guy. He seems almost perfect, but nothing is ever that easy. And as the balance between good and evil shifts, Cassidy finds herself—and her ring—at the heart of the conflict for the survival of mankind.

My Review

After the death of her boyfriend and grandmother, Cassidy is left alone. One night, as she’s looking for a family ring she had given her boyfriend before he died, she slips into a whole other realm. In the demon realm, Cassidy begins to make new friends, and even a new love interest in Killian, the head of the Demon Hunters.

I found this book to be extremely well written. The pace was steady and smooth. Once I picked it up, I found it very hard to put down. The characters were believable and real. I liked Cassidy’s spirit and attitude.

I’ve already purchased the next book in the series and can’t wait to read it!

Books, Reviews, and More for the New Year!

One of my resolutions for the new year is to read and review more books. I guess I shouldn’t really call it a resolution, who really keeps those anyway? This is more of a  real goal. I spent so much time writing last year, that I didn’t read as much as I wanted to or should. After all, isn’t the major advice for writers is to read, read, read, and read some more?

Also, to be honest, I abandoned a whole lot of books last year. For the longest time, I knew who I was as a reader. I knew exactly what I wanted to read. I voraciously sucked down all things vampire. I loved to get lost in a good Heather Graham paranormal. Don’t get me wrong, I still love those books, but I think I needed a break from my norm. I needed a palate refresher. I needed something new!

What finally got me out of my reading rut and gave me something I could sink my teeth into? Reading genres I don’t usually read. I read a couple of fantasies. That’s one genre I usually avoid, but did find a good read in Jennifer Allis Provost’s Heir to the Sun. I also read a really awesome YA paranormal, that will be the first book I feature this year. I’ll be sharing that book in my next post.

This year, I will make it a priority to read, review, and blog at least once a week. I have one book and a novella under my belt already, and I’m about to dive into an ARC by one of my favorite romance authors.

Now, I just need a catchy name. Weekend Reads? Nah, too plain. I’ll think of something. 🙂

Here’s to a great new year full of awesome new books and blogs!

Peace, love, and crawfish!

I’m out!
