Cover Reveal!

SeDream (2)veral years ago, I started writing my first paranormal romance book. I’m in love with all things New Orleans, and the town and ghosts go hand in hand. I started writing, or playing around with an idea that I called That Voodoo That You Do. I even entered it into the same contest that Crossroads (later to become Tangled up in You) won first place in. I won again in the paranormal category so I decided to keep it going.

I signed with Limitless Publishing to publish Tangled up in You. Then Running on Empty. Then Catch and Release. You see a trend? Voodoo got pushed to the back room of the voodoo shop.

I never forgot about it though, and sometimes when I would hit a wall with writing, or simply need a break from the serious story lines, I’d pick it back up and write a few lines, or an idea or two.

A few months ago, I decided to try my hand at self-publishing. And I knew just the project I wanted to put out there. My paranormal. I dusted it off, did some research, and decided to release the books as a series of novellas that will eventually be combined into a single book.

Dream a Little Dream of Me is the first installment that will release next month. I hired the awesome Ashley Byland from Redbird Designs to create this simply stunning cover. What do you guys think? Gorgeous, huh? Makes me want to don a little black dress and dance the Charleston.

The Jolie St. Amant? That’s still me, just a little spicier. 🙂

It’s been an exciting and scary journey so far, and I’m looking forward to seeing the finished product. I’m even more thrilled to see what the readers have to say about it. It’s such a different tone, story, and theme than the Boonie books. Speaking of the Boonies, I have some news on those characters, but you’ll have to wait until next time. 🙂

For now, here’s to new projects!

Peace,

I’m out!

Between the Bleeding Willows by D.A. Roach

Book Review

Between the Bleeding Willows

Book One in the Demon Hunters Series

D.A. Roach

bww

At eighteen years old, Cassidy has suffered more loss than most… At the end of her senior year, her boyfriend, Jace Peters, was killed in a car accident, and her grandmother died only weeks later of a heart attack. Emotionally lost, Cassidy desperately searches for an heirloom her boyfriend was wearing in the crash—her mother’s gold ring. But during her search, Cassidy discovers more than her ring. She finds a gate to the Demon Realm…. A battle is brewing, and Killian—head of the Demon hunters—preps his Clan for the approaching conflict. They’ve been working to secure the gate between his realm and the mortal world. But it’s been nearly impossible since Rya—a voracious demon on a quest to expand her power—devoured the soul of his Clan’s necromancer. Now Rya is possessed with the necromancer’s powers and she may break through the gate at any moment. Apparently Rya isn’t the only one Killian has to worry about… When Cassidy accidentally crosses into the Demon Realm, Killian can’t understand how a human girl survived the transition. Now he has to find a way to return her to her own world, or risk her being caught in the crossfire, which is a complication he definitely doesn’t need. Once back in the Human Realm, Cassidy readies herself for battle. She signs up for Krav Maga classes, where she meets Tyler Romaitis—a handsome, tenacious, humble guy. He seems almost perfect, but nothing is ever that easy. And as the balance between good and evil shifts, Cassidy finds herself—and her ring—at the heart of the conflict for the survival of mankind.

My Review

After the death of her boyfriend and grandmother, Cassidy is left alone. One night, as she’s looking for a family ring she had given her boyfriend before he died, she slips into a whole other realm. In the demon realm, Cassidy begins to make new friends, and even a new love interest in Killian, the head of the Demon Hunters.

I found this book to be extremely well written. The pace was steady and smooth. Once I picked it up, I found it very hard to put down. The characters were believable and real. I liked Cassidy’s spirit and attitude.

I’ve already purchased the next book in the series and can’t wait to read it!

Books, Reviews, and More for the New Year!

One of my resolutions for the new year is to read and review more books. I guess I shouldn’t really call it a resolution, who really keeps those anyway? This is more of a  real goal. I spent so much time writing last year, that I didn’t read as much as I wanted to or should. After all, isn’t the major advice for writers is to read, read, read, and read some more?

Also, to be honest, I abandoned a whole lot of books last year. For the longest time, I knew who I was as a reader. I knew exactly what I wanted to read. I voraciously sucked down all things vampire. I loved to get lost in a good Heather Graham paranormal. Don’t get me wrong, I still love those books, but I think I needed a break from my norm. I needed a palate refresher. I needed something new!

What finally got me out of my reading rut and gave me something I could sink my teeth into? Reading genres I don’t usually read. I read a couple of fantasies. That’s one genre I usually avoid, but did find a good read in Jennifer Allis Provost’s Heir to the Sun. I also read a really awesome YA paranormal, that will be the first book I feature this year. I’ll be sharing that book in my next post.

This year, I will make it a priority to read, review, and blog at least once a week. I have one book and a novella under my belt already, and I’m about to dive into an ARC by one of my favorite romance authors.

Now, I just need a catchy name. Weekend Reads? Nah, too plain. I’ll think of something. 🙂

Here’s to a great new year full of awesome new books and blogs!

Peace, love, and crawfish!

I’m out!

With Olympic selection looming, Ava’s publisher eagerly awaiting a sequel to her hit novel, and day-to-day life taking a toll, Tyler starts to see that life is much easier in the pool than…

Title: RUSSIAN TATTOOS

Author: New York Times Bestselling Author Kat Shehata

Publisher: Limitless Publishing

Release Date: January 12, 2016

SYNOPSIS: Falling in love isn’t a crime—but falling in love with a Russian mafia boss could be deadly.

Competitive tennis player Carter Cook wants a taste of freedom. Her overprotective father monitors every aspect of her life, so when he becomes employed by Vladimir Ivanov—a sexy Russian with an array of tattoos and an accent that weakens her knees—a bit of danger is within Carter’s grasp. Behind her father’s back, she enjoys spending time with Vladimir at his lavish estate. But is he really the upstanding businessman she believes him to be?

Vladimir Ivanov reigns as godfather of a Russian mafia crime ring.

Vladimir spent five years of his life in a Siberian prison camp and has earned every tattoo inked into his skin. He is a powerful man who gets what he wants, and after stalking the gorgeous tennis player for years—he wants Carter. A little charm melts her heart, and behind the scenes, he orders his henchman to track her every move.

He’s a tattooed stick of dynamite ready to blow at the slightest spark.

As their romance reaches deadly levels, Carter senses something’s not right. When she’s lured into a compromising position at the hands of a shady European drug dealer, she calls in Boris, Vladimir’s right hand man, to rescue her—without telling Vladimir. With his authority questioned, he sets out to teach Carter a lesson about loyalty she’ll never forget.

When Carter realizes she’s in too deep, she must fight for her freedom before the attraction turns fatal.

But the Russian mafia plays for keeps, and Vladimir’s fierce lust to possess her spirals their romance out of control.

MEET THE AUTHOR: Kat Shehata went to school with a bunch of animals—literally. She is a graduate of the Cincinnati Zoo’s Animal Conservation and Care Program. Her first career involved caring for exotic, dangerous, and adorable animals as a zookeeper.

She has had her shirt ripped off by a jealous orangutan, hand-fed grapes to fruit bats, played tug-o-war with a three-toed sloth, and escorted an elephant down Pete Rose Way in the Cincinnati Reds Opening Day Parade. As an author, Kat weaves her love of animals into her work. She is the co-author of New York Times bestseller Animals on the Other Sidewritten with Sylvia Browne.

As a competitive tennis player, she spends her free time smashing tennis balls, cheering on her teammates, and playing matches in a recreational league. She lives in Cincinnati, Ohio with her husband, three kids, and an enthusiastic poodle.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in theatre from Wilmington College, a professional writing certificate from the University of Cincinnati, and a master’s degree in creative writing from Spalding University.

Top Five of ’09

I was reading through some of my blog subscriptions earlier today. That’s one of my favorite things to do on a Sunday. I can get caught up on some of my favorite bloggers, and I can get some ideas of writing ideas for the next week.

Stephouse Lifehack posted a blog recently on their top blog posts. I thought that would be a great idea. I’ve acquired a few new subscribers recently so maybe a little walk down memory lane with some of my older and more popular posts is in order.  So, here we go. Here are my “Top Five Posts of ’09”

1. “Guys, Tattoo, and Anne Rice”

I never thought that one would be as popular as it has been. That is actually my top post of all time, not just for 2009. It does have one of my favorite quotes ever, a quote from Anne Rice’s Queen of the Damned.

2. “Tribute to New Orleans”

Surprisingly enough, this blog is actually a shout-out to another blog. Just goes to show how networking can add readers to your blogs.

3.  “Happy Endings and Unfinished Stories”

This is one of many blogs inspired by one of my good friend Cowboy and how his little nuggets of down-to-earth wisdom keeps me grounded and growing.

4.” You Take the Breath Right Out of Me”

https://soonergirl.wordpress.com/2008/08/21/you-take-the-breath-right-out-of-me/

I’ve always been inspired by music and lyrics, and this is just one of the examples of one of my musical blogs. This one is about that one love that just drives you crazy. And not in a good way. It leaves you banging your head against the wall, and wondering just when you lost your mind.

5.” Do These Shoes Make Me Look Fat?”

https://soonergirl.wordpress.com/2008/06/24/do-these-shoes-make-me-look-fat/

A humorous look at body image and how we perceive ourselves…

That’s it. That’s my “Top Five for ’09”.  Hope you enjoy!

I’m off to check out some more blogs! Thanks so much for checking out mine!

Peace! I’m out!
