Halloween in New Orleans

Skeletons wrapped in fake cobwebs were adorned in black and orange Carnival beads and top hats. The party never stopped in New Orleans. Not even when you were dead.–“Dream a Little Dream of Me”

I love New Orleans. In fact, I’m not sure the word “love” adequately describes the emotion that I feel for this town. There’s just something about the way the town simply vibrates with life that appeals to my soul. I can spend hours walking through the French Quarter. The sounds of the street musicians, the sights along Bourbon Street, the smells of the awesome food, all awaken my spirit. 🙂

14713569_10207778512529395_3778491770161948992_nSpeaking of spirits, one of my favorite times to visit this amazing town is during Halloween. New Orleans goes all out for this spooky holiday. Bourbon Street decorates with witches, goblins, ghouls, and of course, vampires. The Krewe of Boo is a parade with floats that throw beads (of course), candy, and other treats to people on the streets. I have been lucky enough to attend a couple of times, and it’s always a blast.

It’s no wonder that I would start a paranormal series set in NOLA. The writing possibilities are endless. That Voodoo That You Do, set in a haunted hotel in New Orleans, is the first in the Chateau Rouge series. This collection of novellas is set during Halloween weekend and has many enchanting surprises.

I’m very excited to say that the next novella, “Casting My Spell”, will be included in the Shadows and Sorcery boxed set that will release in May. In this story, we will meet Mina who was returned to the Chateau Rouge for one reason; to win the heart of the man who stole hers over two hundred years ago. Come Hell or high magic. 🙂

Ghost Hunting in Galveston

IMG_20171123_093615

I’m a big fan of ghost tours. I’ve taken several in New Orleans in the past. And I’ve visited the Myrtles Plantation. I love the stories of the history of the towns and houses of Louisiana. Being a geek for ghosts, when I found out that Galveston was reputedly one of the most haunted cities in the U.S., I had to go check it out.

On the tour, our guide was extremely informative. I learned so much about Galveston’s history, including the fact that the notorious pirate Jean Lafitte once had a base there. I’ll definitely be researching more on this.

One of our stops was the Hutchings-Sealy building (pictured above). When the hurricane of 1900 hit, the water was so high that it reached the second floor. A school teacher there would step out on to the ledge and grab people as they floated by, dead or alive. The teacher ended up passing away from fever soon after.

People have reported seeing the teacher in pictures, and as a ghostly figure at the top of the stairs. She’s also been heard weeping, and even calling out worker’s names in the restaurant that now inhabits the first floor.

I took several pictures the night of the ghost tour, but nothing appeared in those. However, when I went back the next morning, I decided to take a few more. Why not?

I snapped a few of the doorway in the middle, the one without the arch. Then, went about my merry way, as there is a lot to see on Strand Street. Also, it’s been my experience that for whatever reason, images don’t appear until later. Why this is, I have no idea.

I was scrolling through later, and had to stop and do a double take. There was an odd spot of light near the bottom of one pic. When I enlarged it, it resembled a face. Excited, I sent it to a ghost loving friend of mine, and she sent back, “Do you see this?”

That wasn’t the only face.

All in all, we counted at least six.

Chills, I tell you. I got the chills. It was by far one of the creepiest pics I’ve taken on one of these trips.

Are these faces of people past or merely smudges on glass? For all I know it could be fingerprints and my always over active imagination. Who knows. Will I be doing more ghost tours in Galveston? Definitely, I didn’t realize there was so much history in this small town that was once one of the biggest ports in the U.S. And don’t forget the ghosts! 🙂

Peace!

I’m out!

Book’s blurb:

Cursed

The line between sanity and sobriety can quickly fade when you can talk to the dead…

Gina Flinn is no stranger to the dark side. She’s been walking the tightrope with death for years. Plagued with abnormal abilities ranging from picking up old memories to reading auras, Gina found herself in a downward spiral into drugs and alcohol.

She’s been clean and sober for a year now, but when she starts seeing the pesky ghost of the old lady down the street, things start to unravel. It’s a minor annoyance until a ghost of a woman in red shows up and starts tormenting Gina with visions of a violent past

Seeing a side of death that no one should leads Gina straight into Ben Peterson’s path…

In an attempt reunite the old lady with her beloved cat, Gina runs into Ben, who is eager to help her. But no one can help her—the woman in red is relentless, which forces Gina to turn back to the comfort of intoxication. She blacks out and wakes up in bed with Ben, only to find herself on the wrong side of the law.

Gina got into a fight with one of her classmates during her blackout, and now the girl is missing…

Gina is the number one suspect, and with her history of substance abuse and erratic behavior, everyone is sure she’s guilty. She knows she’s innocent and it all leads back to the woman in red.

But with the police breathing down her neck, and Ben the only person willing to believe her story, Gina must find a way to prove her innocence or finally accept that maybe she really is…
